Nambudripad, Dr. Devi S.: a California acupuncturist, chiropractor, and a kinesiologist who developed NAET in an attempt to relieve herself of severe allergic symptoms suffered since her birth in Kerala, South India. While working on her Ph.D. at Samra University of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles, she observed that people presenting allergic symptoms often responded favorably to acupuncture or acupressure treatment. After recognition of the systemic relationship between contact with an allergen and the resulting neuro-physiological effects produced in the body, she began to discover the key to the mystery of how the brain may be reprogrammed in its response to what it once took to be harmful or toxic. Her own experience and personal interest led her to develop the method later referred to collectively as NAET®, and to specialize exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of allergies. She has trained more than Nine thousand medical practitioners from all over the world (chiropractors, acupuncturists, allopathic medical doctors, dentists, doctors of osteopathy, doctors of veterinary medicine are some among the group).  To date, thousands of patients successfully have been treated, with amazing results.  Various studies have been published in peer reviewed journals and many more are now underway to prove the effectiveness of NAET®.

National Adrenal Diseases Foundation: a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, information and education to individuals having Addison's disease as well as other diseases of the adrenal glands. Although Addison's disease is considered a rare disease, it is estimated that at least 10,000 individuals in the United States have this condition (this is probably an underestimation).  Individuals suffering from Addison's disease are often misdiagnosed or go for long painful periods without proper diagnosis. Symptoms of these diseases often mirror those of chronic fatigue syndrome including steadily worsening fatigue, a loss of appetite and some weight loss. Blood pressure is low and falls further when a person is standing, producing lightheadedness. Because of salt loss, a craving for salty foods is common. There may be a darkening of the skin that may look like an inappropriate tan on a person who feels ill.

Natrum Muriaticum: the homeopathic remedy commonly known as table salt or sodium chloride. Salt is the second most common substance in nature, water being the first. Salt is an important component in regulating the balance of body fluids. Salt is a constituent in both body fluids and tissues. Excessive salt intake inhibits proper absorption of nutrients and weakens the nervous system, while a lack of salt creates a lack of fluid, resulting in an emaciated and withered appearance. Natrum muriaticum is a slow acting remedy that responds well to chronic ailments. It increases the production of red blood cells and albumin, a protein found in animal and vegetable tissues. It does not cure by supplying the amount of salt that the body needs, but acts to alter and restore the tissues of the body so they can assimilate the body's needs for salt from food. By bringing the body into a state of health, Natrum muriaticum reduces the patient's susceptibility to colds, fevers, and other ailments.

Natural Toxins: plant produced toxins. All plants produce toxins to protect themselves against fungi, insects and predators. Tens of thousands of these natural pesticides have been discovered, and every species of plant contains its own set of different toxins, usually a few dozen. When plants are stressed or attacked by pests, they greatly increase their output of natural pesticides, occasionally to levels that are acutely toxic to humans.

Naturopath: a practitioner who applies natural therapy. Their spectrum comprises far more than fasting, nutrition, water, and exercise. It includes approved natural healing practices such as Homeopathy, Acupuncture, and Herbal Medicine, as well as the use of modern methods like Bio-Resonance, Ozone-Therapy, and Colon Hydrotherapy. At a time when modern technology, environmental pollution, poor diet, and stress play an enormous role in the degradation of health, a Naturopath's ability to apply natural methods of healing is of considerable importance. By using natural therapies he or she is able to treat both acute and chronic ailments successfully. Frequently, a Naturopath is the last resort in a patient's long search for health. Providing personalised care to each patient, the practitioner sees man as a holistic unity of body, mind, and spirit. Using a range of alternative methods of diagnosis, a practitioner can often successfully pin-point a predisposition in the body, before the onset of acute disease, and treat the patient with specific therapies and changes in the patient's living habits.

Nd:YAG laser: a laser consists of a cavity, with plane or spherical mirrors at the ends, that is filled with lasable material. This material can be excited to a semi-stable state by light or an electric discharge. The material can be a crystal, glass, liquid, dye, or gas as long as it can be excited in this way. The Nd:Yag laser is a solid state laser is one that uses a ND:Yag crystal, whose atoms are rigidly bonded, unlike a gas. The crystal produces laser light after light is pumped into it by either a lamp or another laser.  The concept behind lasers was first proposed by Albert Einstein, who showed that light consists of mass-less particles called photons. Each photon has an energy that corresponds to the frequency of the waves. The higher the frequency, the greater the energy carried by the waves. Einstein and another scientist named S. N. Bose then developed the theory for the phenomenon where photons tend to travel together. This is the principle behind the laser. Laser action was first demonstrated in the microwave region in 1954 by Nobel Prize winner Charles Townes and co-workers. They projected a beam of ammonia molecules through a system of focusing electrodes. When microwave power of appropriate frequency was passed through the cavity, amplification occurred and the term microwave amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (M.A.S.E.R.) was born. The term laser was first coined in 1957 by physicist Gordon Gould. Nd:YAG laser used in many industrial, scientific and medical applications, along with other solid state lasers that use different type of crystals. Nd:YAG lasers are also being used for monitoring pollution, welding and other uses. This type of crystal is the most widely used—more than two-thirds of crystals grown are this type.

Nervonic Acidan essential nutrient for the growth and maintenance of the brain. It is highly recommended to pregnant and nursing women and small children but can be beneficial to exercising adults as well.  Nervonic acid is an important ingredient in nervous cell membranes because it is vital in regulating the ion channels and receptors. It plays a part in the biosynthesis of myelin (10) (the white matter insulating the nerves- that allows the conduction of impulses from one part of the body to another). Nervonic acid can regulate the function of brain cell membranes and have a neuroprotective effect which is important to hard training individuals. Nervonic acid can enhance neuron “firing” thereby increasing mental focus and maybe even muscle contraction (although this is just a theory right now).

Neuromuscular Approach to the TMJ: the science of using the relaxed position of the muscles of the head and neck to place the jaw in the optimal physiologic position for comfort and function. Over thirty years of research and clinical experience has shown this technique to be highly effective in treating patients with various levels of head and neck pain. It is also used in finding the optimal jaw position before restorative dentistry and greatly increases the longevity of the restorations. Neuromuscular dentistry has brought an entirely new level of predictability to the treatment of head and neck disorders through the utilization of objective, scientific, measurable data that serves as the foundation for diagnosis and treatment. older treatment philosophies and approaches, which pre-date modern high-speed computing power, relied heavily on subjective methods and assessments. Modern neuromuscular dentistry approaches utilize sophisticated computerized diagnostics and bio-electronic instrumentation, to record and interpret joint sounds, muscle activity, and jaw movements, all in real time. Sonography, Electromyography EMG, Computerized Mandibular Scanning CMS, and Trans-Cutaneous Neural Stimulation TENS are all used to diagnose and treat TMJ/TMD problems. These newer approaches allow us to find the most relaxed physiologic position for the jaw and determine the best bite for comfort and aesthetics. To correct TMJ/TMD and to guard against further damage, the jaw is supported in a proper, muscularly balanced position, determined with advanced computer analysis. In most cases, this can be done without surgery or braces.

NICO (Neuralgia-Inducing Cavitational Osteitis lesions): hollow places in jaw bones. These hollow areas may never cause pain or a problem. However, cavitations can produce trigeminal pain, headaches, and facial pain. Cavitations are common in all bones that have bone marrow. Many cavitations linger for years without producing facial pain. Most people know what a cavity is, but the word cavitation is confusing.  Both of these words come from the same root word meaning hole.  A cavity is a hole in the tooth, whereas a cavitation is a hole in bone.

NLP: Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a name that encompasses the three most influential components involved in producing human experience: neurology, language and programming. The neurological system regulates how our bodies function, language determines how we interface and communicate with other people and our programming determines the kinds of models of the world we create. Neuro-Linguistic Programming describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay effects our body and behavior (programming). NLP is a pragmatic school of thought - an 'epistemology' - that addresses the many levels involved in being human. NLP is a multi-dimensional process that involves the development of behavioral competence and flexibility, but also involves strategic thinking and an understanding of the mental and cognitive processes behind behavior.

Nonprofit Financial Management, Basic Guide: new nonprofit leaders and managers have to develop at least basic skills in financial management. Expecting others in the organization to manage finances is clearly asking for trouble. Basic skills in financial management start in the critical areas of cash management and bookkeeping, which should be done according to certain financial controls to ensure integrity in the bookkeeping process. New leaders and managers should soon go on to learn how to generate financial statements (from bookkeeping journals) and analyze those statements to really understand the financial condition of the business. Financial analysis shows the "reality" of the situation of a business – seen as such, financial management is one of the most important practices in management. This guide (written by Carter McNamara, MBA, PhD) will help you understand basic practices in financial management, and build the basic systems and practices needed in a healthy business.

nutraceuticals: the term is a fusion of  the two words "nutritional" and "pharmaceutical" and refers to foods thought to have a beneficial effect on human health. It can also refer to individual chemicals which are present in common foods (and therefore may be delivered in a non-drug form). Many such nutraceuticals are phytonutrients. Dr. Stephen DeFelice coined the term in 1989. The term has no regulatory definition, but it is commonly used in marketing. It is certainly not a new concept. Chinese medicine would be one example. Another would be Hippocrates who is quoted as saying, "Let your food be your medicine and let your medicine be your food." Nutraceuticals are often used in nutrient premixes or nutrient systems in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Nutraceuticals are sometimes called functional foods.
